Bible Translations
Bible translations can be a big issue for some folks. For most
of those people, the King James Version is the only REAL
Bible. If that's what they choose to believe, by all means,
they should be allowed to believe it.
We, however, realize that the King James Version is itself, a
translation. Contrary to what some may believe, the Bible was
not written in English! Not even King James English! :0)
Our take on this thing is that if the New International
Version is easier for you to read, then that's the one you
should be reading. If you prefer the King James or the
Amplified Bible, then THEY the ones you should be reading.
You should be reading the one that helps you understand
what God is trying to tell YOU. I should
be reading the one that helps ME understand what He's
trying to tell me. Let's take a look at, for
instance, John 3:16...
King James
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have
everlasting life."
NIV
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal
life."
Young's Literal Translation
"for God did so love the world, that His Son -- the only
begotten -- He gave, that every one who is believing in him
may not perish, but may have life age-during."
Darby Translation
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten
Son, that whosoever believes on him may not perish, but have
life eternal."
NAS
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten
Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have
eternal life."
The Message
"This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his
one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be
destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and
lasting life."
Amplified Bible
"For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He
gave up His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Him
shall not perish but have eternal life."
NLT
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only
Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but
have eternal life."
ASV
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but
have eternal life."
Wycliffe New Testament
"For God loved so the world , that he gave his one begotten
Son, that each man that believeth in him perish not, but have
everlasting life."
Holman Christian Standard Bible
"For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only
Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but
have eternal life."
There is something very interesting that comes to light when
you see the different translations laid out side by side. If
you read each one carefully and slowly, you may begin to see
it, if you haven't already noticed it. Take your time and
compare them...study them, even. It's really quite
astonishing!
Have you found it yet? Would you like to look again? If you've
already found it, congratulations! If you haven't found it and
would like to take the easy way out, simply drop us a
line...we promise not to send you nasty emails...*wicked
laughter*
